The moment all of us had been looking forward to finally took place yesterday. MGMT was about to play the ABClub in Brussels. Although only me and Phara had tickets, Hermie worked that magic powers and won tickets (once again) so she and Gisèle could join the party.
Florence and the Machine were a good warmerup for what was about to follow. Their singer had an amzing voice, was pretty crazy and they had some catchy beats going on as well.

Finally Ben, Andrew and their fellow bandmembers entered the stage. It seemed like everyday routine to them what didn’t make it very special to us. Perhaps it was the drugs or perhaps they are just apathetic beings, I reckon the first one though. They are musicians after all. The first smile we got to see was when they ended their set with ‘metanoia’, some psychedelic jamsession of about 15 minutes that was actually quite funky. But we (and with us the rest of the crowd) wouldn’t let them leave before they played ‘kids’ and it wasn’t very hard to persuade them to get back on stage. They played another unfamiliar song and the rest of the long-haired members left, making room for Ben and Andrew. They needed room for it would become some kind of karaoke show. Their MOOG got programmed and they had collective fun singing, dancing and laughing, which worked contagious on the crowd. We all did some dancing and jumped up and down.
Andrew went backstage near the end but returned a second later with some horrible turqoise fleece pants which I catched. Ha! It’s very nice and warm by the way.
They faded out (as they were saying themselves) with some selfmade improvised synthesizer bleeps that sounded, strangely enough, like some nineties movietheme. Danceable though and they seemed to like it.

The night ended in beauty when we all got an XL exclusive MGMT shirt that they left in front of the stage, clearly for the audience to take with them. And so we did as we left the building talking loud and enthusiastically and still pretty much jumping up and down.
So much for another splendid night!

HAHAHA
we’ll believe that…
It’s soooo pretty though, my body is adjusting to it now,
love the little smiles, and KIDS
and my favorite WEEKEND WARS
I’m surprised you don’t mention the crazy attention whore who blocked our view by standing in front of Andrew on the stage and who spoiled the ending of the song by making what was probably an indecent proposition!
“Another unfamiliar song” was a cover of The Kinks’ (yes, The Kinks, not Kiss, as said in De Standaard) “Mindless Child of Motherhood”. Know your classics!
Nonetheless, it definitely was a splendid night!
